Crossroads LED will be presenting success stories of reducing light pollution

Life on earth has evolved to the natural cycle of night and day. The rapid propagation of standard LED streetlights, and the intense blue light they emit, is creating light pollution and perpetual twilight, disrupting this delicate cycle.

In support of International Dark Sky Week 2024, Crossroads LED will be presenting seven success stories of how cities and businesses across the US are reducing light pollution and sky glow by utilizing our award-winning, dark sky certified luminaires.

Our sixth success story takes us back to Phoenix, Arizona and the Copper Medallions that are proudly displayed along Central Avenue.  The medallions, mounted to decorative roadway and pedestrian light poles, celebrate the State’s long history of native American imagery and copper mining and are an iconic fusion of public art located deep within the heart of downtown Phoenix.

As the expense of maintaining the aging and antiquated high pressure sodium fixtures increased, the City began searching for a low cost and energy efficient solution that would not require an expensive LED fixture replacement.

After a thorough evaluation process, the City selected Crossroads LED’s “Prestige Series DSC” luminaires and converted over 650 decorative roadway and pedestrian lighting fixtures along Central Avenue into an advanced LED lighting platform.

Engineered to withstand Arizona’s extreme hot summer months, the “Prestige Series DSC” luminaires combine warm amber illumination and dark sky compliance with superior optics and a full ten-year warranty.
